Cops chase, nab two thieves in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: Police personnel on patrol chased and caught two thieves who were trying to escape on seeing them at Vellakinar in the city in the early hours of Monday. They seized three mobile phones, a knife and a stolen scooter from the two thieves, including a teenager.One of the arrested has been identified as M Nagendran, 22, of Subbathal Layout at Rathinapuri. The other is a 17-year-old boy. Head constable Mohan attached to Thudiyalur police station and constable Agnel attached to the Tamil Nadu Special Police, Kovaipudur, were patrolling on the Thudiyalur – Saravanampatti Road around 3 am when they saw a youth and a boy. The duo started to run on seeing the cops. The police personnel chased the duo and caught them.

They searched them and found a knife and three mobile phones. During the inquiry, the duo told the police that they stole a scooter from Rathinapuri and three mobile phones from Manickkampalayam near Kovilpalayam and Saravanampatti on Sunday night.

A case was registered against them. Nagendran was remanded in judicial custody and lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison. The teenager was produced before the juvenile justice board and lodged in an observation home.Police said Nagendran was facing six cases, including three crime cases in the city, and the minor boy was facing an assault case.
