Cosplay workshop builds excitement ahead of Kolkata Comic Con

Pop culture enthusiasts in the city got a hands-on introduction to the craft of cosplay as Comic Con India hosted a Cosplay 101 Workshop in Kolkata ahead of the upcoming Kolkata Comic Con 2026. Held at TopCat CCU, the workshop brought together more than 150 fans eager to learn how to transform into their favourite fictional characters through costume and performance. The session was led by noted cosplayers including Akshay Churi, a two-time winner of the Indian Championship of Cosplay, along with Souvik and Asmita, former ICC’25 Kolkata qualifiers, and popular cosplayer Pracheta. Participants were guided through the essentials of cosplay, with demonstrations on foam prop crafting, VFX make-up techniques, wig styling, costume finishing and character presentation. The experts also shared professional tips on creating metallic textures, weathering props for a battle-worn effect and using highlights and shadows to add realism to costumes.

Beyond costume-making, the workshop emphasised performance, encouraging participants to embody their characters with confidence and creativity. “Cosplay has always been my greatest passion; it is more than just a hobby. Watching people take interest in the craft I love, especially armour-making and prop building, makes me really happy,” said Souvik, thanking Comic Con India for providing a platform to share his experience with an enthusiastic community. The workshop celebrated the city’s growing fan culture and set the stage for Kolkata Comic Con 2026, which is scheduled to take place on April 11–12 at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre.
