Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud said that the people of the country were enjoying the fruits of freedom today because of the immense sacrifices and struggles of Congress leaders during the freedom movement.

Speaking at the Republic Day celebrations at Gandhi Bhavan after unfurling the Indian flag, he said that the wide range of rights enjoyed by citizens today is a great gift bestowed by the Constitution of India. He alleged that forces which did not actively participate in the freedom struggle have been in power since 2014 and are now making attempts to weaken and alter the Constitution.

He accused the BJP of working with a deliberate agenda to amend the Constitution and distance the people from the legacies of Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru. As part of this conspiracy, he said, the BJP government removed Mahatma Gandhi’s name from the MGNREGA scheme, fearing that it would remind people of the Congress government and the contributions of leaders like Dr. Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi.

Referring to the situation in Telangana, he said the State suffered severe financial destruction during the BRS regime under K. Chandrashekar Rao and that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was now steering the State away from economic ruin and towards development.

He pointed out that Telangana has become a model for the country through its caste survey, with other States closely watching its efforts. He reaffirmed the Congress commitment to providing 42% reservations for Backward Classes and to addressing unemployment by creating job opportunities.

Meanwhile, Mr. Goud left for Delhi, where he is scheduled to meet senior AICC leaders along with PCC chiefs of various States. The discussions will focus on organisational strengthening, recently announced agitation and action programmes by the AICC and current political developments.
