The Communist Party of India (CPI) leaders on Thursday demanded immediate initiatives to support mango farmers in Chittoor district and to provide them relief from the heavy losses incurred due to unseasonal rains.
Addressing the CPI District Executive Committee meeting here, the party’s State executive member A. Ramanaidu urged the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to order the timely processing of works in mango pulp factories and ensure remunerative prices for mango produce.
He claimed that large quantities of mango crop had fallen prematurely due to the recent rains and heavy gales, pushing farmers into financial distress. He alleged that Agriculture and Horticulture officials were not taking the plight of the mango growers seriously. The CPI leader urged the coalition government to intervene and provide immediate price support to farmers.
Mr. Ramanaidu criticised the NDA government over unplanned economic policies and expenditure priorities. CPI district secretary S. Nagaraju and several district executive members attended the meeting.
