The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Tuesday (July 7, 2026) accused IT Minister Nara Lokesh of failing to fulfil his pre-election promise of providing house sites and permanent housing to the poor in the Mangalagiri Assembly constituency. The CPI(M) leaders announced a protest march to his camp office on July 15.

Led by CPI(M) State secretariat member Ch. Babu Rao, party leaders staged a demonstration at a stone plaque installed by Mr. Lokesh during his ‘Yuva Galam’ padayatra, where he had promised to provide house sites for 20,000 homeless poor families in the constituency.

Addressing the media, Mr. Babu Rao said nearly two years had passed since the coalition government assumed office, but the promise remained unfulfilled. He stated that the stone plaque has become a symbol of an unimplemented assurance.

He claimed that the people had elected Mr. Lokesh with a large majority after believing his promises of issuing ownership pattas to families living on government lands.

The CPI(M) leader claimed that although around 3,000 beneficiaries received pattas in April 2025, many could not begin construction due to the lack of financial assistance and difficulty in securing bank loans. He alleged that thousands of eligible families were still awaiting pattas, while house site pattas issued to about 50,000 beneficiaries in the Amaravati region had been cancelled without alternative arrangements.

He demanded immediate distribution of house sites, ₹5 lakh financial assistance for house construction and alternative land for families displaced by eviction drives.
