The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Tuesday (July 7, 2026) demanded that the Andhra Pradesh government announce ₹50 lakh compensation for each family of the six fishermen who remain missing after a fishing boat accident off the Visakhapatnam coast.

A CPI(M) delegation, led by district secretary M. Jaggu Naidu, visited the affected families at the Fishing Harbour and expressed concern over the delay in tracing the missing fishermen, four days after the accident. Addressing the media, he asked the Central and State governments to step up the search and find the missing fishermen at the earliest.

He said the families, including pregnant women, mothers with infants and young children, were under severe distress as the fate of their loved ones remained unknown. He demanded that the government give interim financial help of ₹1 lakh to each affected family at once, on humanitarian grounds.

Mr. Jaggu Naidu also asked the government to provide free education for the children of the missing fishermen, and sanction permanent houses to the affected families, many of whom live in rented homes. He said elected representatives and officials had so far offered only assurances, with no firm announcement on compensation, and called for immediate action by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and the district administration.
