US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee on Sunday said he feels safer in Jerusalem than in Washington, DC, claiming there are “crazy Hamas people" in the US capital and calling the city a “crazy town".
Speaking at a gathering in Israel, Huckabee recounted incidents during a visit to Washington last year and said he faced hostile encounters while moving around the city.
“While I was there, on two different occasions, I got surrounded by these pro-Hamas crazy people. One started out as two ladies. It ended up being about 20 people surrounding me, yelling and screaming, and it was really getting close to a little uncomfortable," he said.

Huckabee said a second incident occurred days later, where he was attending a reception. He claimed protesters again recognised him and began shouting, prompting intervention from Senator Jim Lankford of Oklahoma, who offered him a ride.
He added that the experience left him eager to leave Washington. “I can’t wait to get out of this crazy town and get back to Jerusalem where I feel safe," he said, before stressing that his remarks were not a joke. “I really am anxious to get out of this crazy town and get back to Jerusalem because I feel safe there."
