Crèche must in workplaces with over 50 employees: Ernakulam collector

Kochi: District collector G Priyanka has directed establishments employing 50 or more workers to mandatorily provide crèche facilities.The directive was issued at a special meeting convened to discuss implementation of provisions under Maternity Benefit Act on Monday.

Collector said employers and organisations should ensure compliance with the law, which seeks to increase women’s participation in workforce while guaranteeing safety and care of children.Under the act, workplaces with more than 50 employees are required to provide crèche facilities. Collector warned that action would be initiated against institutions that fail to make arrangements mandated by law.The meeting reviewed measures to improve childcare support and ensure better working conditions for women employees across the district.
