The Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) on Wednesday (August 20) performed the keel-laying ceremony for a hybrid Service Operation Vessel (SOV) for the U.K.-based North Star Shipping (Aberdeen) Limited, a CSL communication said.
The 68-metre-long hybrid-electric SOV is designed in collaboration with VARD AS, Norway. The VARD 4 07 SOV is the first of the two SOVs being constructed by CSL for North Star.
The vessel is built under the classification of DNV, equipped with a hybrid electric system powered by lithium-ion batteries, fitted with electric cycloidal propulsion for enhanced manoeuvrability and a modern walk-to-work gangway arrangement enabling safe and efficient personnel transfers in offshore environments. The vessel has a battery hybrid power management system, DP2 class dynamic positioning system, facilities for wind turbine maintenance and an integrated warehouse and logistics centre.
The ceremony was attended by James Bradford, chief technology officer at North Star Shipping, Michael Reid, head of special projects at North Star Shipping, Jose V.J. (director – finance, CSL), Harikrishnan S. (executive director – shipbuilding), Rajesh Gopalakrishnan (executive director – ship repair) and representatives from North Star site team attended the event.
