Technology deployment to achieve a total air purification volume of over 3,00,000 cubic meters per hour

NEW DELHI (India CSR): Jindal Stainless, India’s leading stainless steel manufacturer, is funding an innovative, indigenous advanced air purification system at the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham (SKVD) Ramp Building encompassing the historic Manikarnika Ghat. This initiative, named Sanjeevan (translating to ‘restoring to life’), marks Jindal Stainless’ largest CSR initiative and is being undertaken in collaboration with Amida Cleantech Private Limited (AMIDA) for implementing Amida’s novel ambient air purification technology.

The company did not disclose the investment amount but described the project as its largest Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to date, aligned with the National Clean Air Programme of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change aimed at promoting healthier air at the city, regional and national levels.

“The initiative followed approval by the SKVD Authority for implementation of the unique air purification system at the Ramp building of SKVD premises, adjacent to the Manikarnika Ghat cremation area, to cleanse the air emanating from burning pyres at Manikarnika Ghat.”, the company said.

This one-of-its-kind, innovative project deploys AMIDA’s ACE+ technology, which has been tested, validated, and approved by leading government bodies, including NITI Aayog. Designed to neutralise (ACE – Attract, Capture, and Eliminate) diverse airborne pollutants, the system effectively captures and eliminates not only a wide range of particulate matter including nano-black carbon, pollens, and organic matter (100 nm to 50 microns) from the ambient air, but also neutralises toxic vehicular emissions like SOx and NOx as well as microbial contaminants (viruses and bacteria) to create a cleaner and healthier environment. This project comprises 58 air-purifying units made of stainless steel, to accomplish a total air purification volume of over 3,00,000 cubic meters per hour.

Commenting on this initiative, Jindal Stainless stated, “This initiative is in line with the company’s ongoing commitment to environmental preservation. By improving air quality at Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham, we aim to enhance the environment for both local residents and the millions of devotees who visit this revered landmark. Our collaboration with Amida Cleantech showcases our support for innovative Indian technology while driving meaningful change and delivering tangible environmental benefits.”

Amida Cleantech asserted that its unwavering commitment to sustainable clean air has driven continuous innovation, culminating in the breakthrough ACE+ technology systems. Focused on advanced solutions to combat severe pollution, the company aims to safeguard both environmental and human health — guided by its core principle, “The Air You Breathe.” AMIDA’s ACE+ innovations address the critical need for effective mitigation of ambient air pollution across diverse sectors facing escalating pollution levels and their adverse impact on the wider community.

Access to healthier air is vital for the health and well-being of our communities, and this novel initiative by Jindal Stainless plays a crucial role in significantly enhancing the quality of air in the region. Both Jindal Stainless and AMIDA were commended by the local Authorities for their passion and dedication to improving the environment and creating a healthier future, the company said.

The project’s core objective is to capture a significant portion of the emissions from the Manikarnika Ghat cremation centre. Secondly, it is to reduce the particulate matter concentration levels along the corridor that leads to the temple’s shrine, subsequently ensuring healthier air quality for the pilgrims, devotees, priests, as well as reducing the damage to the exterior surface of the SKVD complex’s new and old buildings.
