The Confederation of University Employees Organisations Kerala (CUEO) will organise protest gatherings across all university campuses on Tuesday in protest against the alleged denial of salary and pension disbursement at APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU).
The organisation blamed KTU Vice-Chancellor in-charge K. Sivaprasad for pushing the university into ruin by sidelining legally mandated governing bodies including the Board of Governors and the Syndicate.
In a statement, CUEO general secretary Hari Lal said the “unlawful” actions have resulted in a situation where employees, instead of enjoying the prosperity of the Onam festive season, are forced to face hunger.
He added that the responsibility to ensure timely payment of employees’ salaries rests with the Vice-Chancellor, who is the head of the institution. “A temporary Vice-Chancellor who cannot ensure smooth administration of the university has no right to cling to that chair. Salaries are the rightful wages of employees for their work, and the university fund has adequate money for disbursal,” Mr. Hari Lal asserted.
The confederation also urged the Governor to direct the Vice-Chancellor to ensure the unobstructed functioning of the university and to release pending salaries without delay.
