Custody battle in court: Woman kidnaps 5-yr-old daughter, arrested

Mohali: Fighting for her child’s custody, the matter currently sub judice, a woman allegedly kidnapped her 5-year-old daughter, but her plan to spend time with her was short-lived as police tracked her down and “rescued the child” within hours of the incident.

The woman was arrested while three of her accomplices are absconding.The incident took place in Kurali, where the girl was forcefully taken away by a group of 4 to 5 men accompanied by her mother when her grandparents were bringing her home from school. The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the area.SP (rural) Manpreet Singh said the matter was linked to an ongoing matrimonial dispute over the five years old child’s custody, which is currently sub judice.The SP said, “The child’s mother, with the help of her brothers, hatched a conspiracy to kidnap her daughter from her grandparents. The child was forcefully taken away when the grandparents were entering their house after bringing her back from school.”He said the police launched an investigation and gathered CCTV footage to trace the accused and recover the child.“The girl child was rescued from her mother, though from a different location and not from the woman’s residence,” the SP added.Father of the girl said the kidnappers attacked his parents and injured his mother, Bhupinder Kaur, who was reportedly run over by the car.
