Luka Doncic recently made headlines when it was revealed that he would be working on Overwatch 2. Basketball and video game fans congratulated him on the collaboration. However, it seems that there was some issue around the Overwatch billboard in Dallas from the Mavericks’ side.

Sources claim that they were reportedly forced to relocate the billboard from its original placement. This is because the Mavericks weren't pleased since they thought it was too near the arena.

Luka Doncic’s Overwatch billboard in Dallas sparked controversy as Mavericks ownership forced its relocation

The reported beef between the team and the player recently got more exciting after the Dallas Mavericks traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. Their supporters quickly expressed their displeasure with general manager Nico Harrison after the transaction. Now, recently, the reported feud took an amusing new turn. Luka Doncic collaborated with Overwatch 2 to advertise the new Stadium Mode in Season 18. As a result, a picture of him and his in-game persona, Sharpshooter 77, was used in the promotion.

The Mavericks reportedly objected to the billboard's location in Dallas. The Sporting Tribune's Arash Markazi reported that the team executives compelled the company to move the advertisement because they thought it was too near the arena. The report further read: “The Luka Doncic Overwatch signage in Dallas wasn’t without controversy from the Mavericks side apparently.

According to sources, Mavericks ownership made them move the original location of the billboard. They felt that it was too close to the arena. They weren’t happy.” After being selected in the 2018 NBA Draft, Luka Doncic became the face of the Mavericks. However, in February, he was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, ending his tenure with the team. Fans were stunned by the agreement, and many even criticized the manager for it.

Why did the Dallas Mavericks trade Luka Doncic?

Nico Harrison openly mentioned Luka Doncic's reported lack of defensive effort as one of the main reasons for moving the superstar point guard.

After losing to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the playoffs the previous season, he will now try to make it to the Finals with LeBron James and the L.A. Lakers.

The Dallas Mavericks further said that they acquired the player in order to strengthen their defiance. However, they were also worried about his work ethic and behavior because he reportedly weighed up to 270 pounds, which isn’t the case right now. According to insiders who spoke to MacMahon, the team also traded him allegedly due to his ongoing conditioning issues. Team sources believed that Luka Doncic's injury problems were mostly caused by his lack of discipline with regard to his nutrition and conditioning. Meanwhile, it is not unexpected that Dallas' front office chose to keep its home arena away from Luka Doncic's billboard, given the fans are still furious about the deal.
