Decomposed bodies of elderly man, daughter recovered from Jaipur home

Police rules out foul play

Jaipur: The decomposed bodies of a 95-year-old retired railway employee and his 55-year-old daughter were found inside their locked house in Jaipur’s Jagatpura area Friday.

Police suspect the two died around five days ago, though the exact cause of death is yet to be established.The deceased were identified as Mahavir Sharma and Preeti.Assistant Commissioner of Police Hari Shankar Sharma said preliminary post-mortem findings did not indicate any foul play.“The house was locked from inside. After neighbours complained of a foul smell, police reached the spot and broke open the door.

The elderly man’s body was found on a bed, while his daughter’s body was found in another part of the house,” he said.The incident came to light in Anand Vihar Railway Colony under the Ramnagariya police station limits after neighbours noticed a strong stench coming from the house. They also found newspapers lying untouched inside the gate for several days and realised that Preeti, who routinely collected the newspapers and watered plants every morning, was not seen for days.

Acting on the information, Ramnagariya police reached the spot and opened the locked house in the presence of Mahavir’s two sons. The two bodies were found in different parts of the house.Police said both bodies were in an advanced state of decomposition, and the foul smell was so intense that officers found it difficult to enter the premises. Officials estimate the deaths occurred about five days ago. An FSL team collected forensic evidence from the scene.Police said Mahavir was a retired railway employee, and both his sons are employed with the railways. His daughter, who was divorced, had been living with her father for several years.The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination. Police said the exact cause of death will be known only after the post-mortem and forensic reports are received.
