Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh reviewed frontline preparedness and joint operational capabilities during his two-day visit to Bhuj on February 4 and 5. The visit covered forward locations in the Creek Sector, where he received detailed briefings on operational readiness and ongoing capability-building measures.

Defence Secretary Singh, interacted with senior commanders, including Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Southern Command, along with other top officers of Konark Corps. Field commanders outlined the region’s security posture and progress made under the Army’s transformation roadmap, aimed at building a technology-driven, combat-ready force equipped for multi-domain operations.

A key highlight of the visit was the Joint Control Centre, designed to integrate inputs from multiple sensors and agencies into a single surveillance picture. Officials said the system improves situational awareness for ground commanders and enables quicker, more informed decisions in dynamic border and coastal environments.

The Defence Secretary also inaugurated the Monumental Flag in the border region, a symbolic gesture reflecting national unity and pride. He later observed an operational showcase of new-generation weapon systems, which demonstrated enhanced mobility, precision and response time.

The visit concluded with a large-scale multi-agency coastal and amphibious exercise that brought together the India Army, Indian Navy, Indian AirForce, Indian Coast Guard and the Border Security Force along with other security partners. The drill showcased real-time surveillance, precision strikes, joint logistics and rapid response to emerging maritime and border threats. Officials said the exercise validated the country’s growing integrated capability to handle a full spectrum of operations along sensitive coastal stretches.

Senior defence officials noted that the Bhuj visit reflects the government’s sustained focus on strengthening jointness across services, upgrading border infrastructure, promoting indigenous equipment and building future-ready forces. The emphasis, they added, is on resilience, technology adoption and seamless coordination among agencies to meet evolving security challenges.

For troops deployed in forward areas, the visit served as a morale booster and reaffirmed institutional backing for ongoing modernisation efforts. For planners, it offered a real-time assessment of how new systems and joint structures are translating into operational advantage on the ground.
