A 17-year-old boy allegedly died by suicide after jumping in front of a moving metro train at Uttam Nagar East metro station in West Delhi on Friday morning.
According to police, information was received from the station controller at 11:07 am regarding a person jumping onto the tracks. Upon reaching the spot, officials found that the teenager had jumped from Platform No. 1 and was run over by a metro train arriving from the Dwarka side. The body had been removed from the tracks before police arrived.
The deceased was identified as a resident of Najafgarh. Police said he had completed Class 12 and was preparing for further studies while attending coaching classes at a private institute in Uttam Nagar.
The metro services on the blue line were also interrupted briefly due to the incident.
DCP Metro Kushal Pal Singh said, “Preliminary inquiry suggests that he was reportedly distressed due to personal issues. His father works as a contractual driver with DTC, and Ashwini was the only child in the family.”
The body has been shifted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for post-mortem examination. Inquest proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) have been initiated, police said.
