Heeding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for austerity, M.K. Pranesh, Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council, has written to the Chikkamagaluru Superintendent of Police requesting the withdrawal of his official escort vehicle.
In his letter dated May 15, Mr. Pranesh — who represents local bodies in Chikkamagaluru in the Legislative Council — said he was voluntarily giving up the escort in response to the Prime Minister’s appeal to reduce fuel consumption and adopt measures of austerity.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, earlier this month, appealed to citizens of the country to reduce the consumption of petrol and diesel, use public transport and adopt carpooling and increase the use of electric vehicles, among such other measures.
