Ragesh Kayalur, a senior journalist with Deshabhimani’s Kannur bureau, on Tuesday evening succumbed to the injuries sustained in a road accident in Kannur, Kerala. He was 51.
A native of Chavassery, Mattanur, the accident occurred late Sunday night while Ragesh was returning home after duty. He was hit by a lorry near the court on the Mattannur-Irrity road.
He was initially admitted to AKG hospital, Kannur, and later shifted to Chala MIMS hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery on Monday morning. Despite efforts, he could not be saved.
A long-time Mattanur correspondent, Ragesh joined Deshabhimani as a proofreader in 2008 and later served in the Kasaragod bureau. He had also served on the personal staff of former Industries Minister E.P Jayarajan.
He is survived by his wife, Jisha, and children Sreenanda Ragesh and Suryatej.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and CPI(M) State secretary M.V. Govindan have expressed their condolences. Senior party leaders, journalists and others paid their final respects to Ragesh Kayalur at the Deshabhimani office at Pallikunnu, Kannur.
