Gurgaon: The state vigilance and anti-corruption bureau lodged an FIR against district food and supplies controller (DFSC) Ashok Rawat and a food supply department sub-inspector, Jaiveer, for allegedly demanding a Rs 20,000 bribe from a ration depot owner to ensure continuation of ration supply to their unit in Rewari district.The FIR was registered on March 27 under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act and BNS Section 308(2) (extortion).An administrative officer told TOI that after the case was registered, Rawat went on leave, and repeated attempts to contact him for comment did not elicit any reply. No arrests have been made so far in the case.The complainant, Mohit, a resident of Nimoth village in Rewari, alleged that his ration depot was inspected on June 19 last year and a fine of Rs 2,000 was imposed.
On Nov 3, he visited the DFSC’s office with his father where Jaiveer demanded Rs 20,000 to ensure that the depot’s ration supply was not stopped.An audio recording examined during the probe indicated that the sub-inspector insisted on the payment and said he was instructed by a senior officer to do so.Following approvals from director general of police, vigilance bureau, the FIR was registered and investigation was initiated. Officials said the role of Rawat, and any other persons involved will be examined during the probe.
