Veteran actor Dharmarajan Bolgatty has spoken out in support of AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists), highlighting the organization’s many good deeds that, he says, often go unnoticed.

“AMMA has given houses for members, pensions, medical assistance, even delivered medicines directly to homes,” he shared.Dharmarajan said from his own experience, “In my case, if I need two tablets, those two tablets regularly reach my home—and that is from AMMA.” He expressed disappointment that while controversies surrounding the organization receive widespread attention, its humanitarian efforts are rarely acknowledged.

'When Lalettan was there, he ran it beautifully'

Regarding the AMMA election, the actor told Manorama Online, “This is a decisive election. Because Lalettan is stepping down, new people are coming in. Two others are also running for the general secretary post. When Lalettan was there, he ran it beautifully. Innocent chettan also managed it well. Now the question is how the new people will take it forward.” He emphasized that all candidates are capable, adding that greater female representation in leadership would be a welcome change.

In particular, Dharmarajan voiced support for actress Shweta, who won the AMMA election. He praised her humility and dismissed criticism of her film roles. “She only acted according to the demands of the story—there is nothing wrong in that. She is not a ‘s** actress.’ For an actress to be willing to perform such roles itself is a big thing,” he remarked. Dharmarajan urged members to stop forming cliques and WhatsApp groups that divide the body.

Instead, he called for unity, stressing that AMMA should be seen for the “good movement” it truly is.
