The FBI described the fuzzy image as "possibly an inmate,” while the Department of Justice Inspector General later identified it as an unidentified corrections officer.

Surveillance footage from the night of Jeffrey Epstein’s death shows an orange-colored figure moving up the stairs towards the tier where his cell was located.
In a dramatic twist, newly released Department of Justice documents reveal that while examining surveillance footage from the night of Jeffrey Epstein’s death, investigators noticed an orange-colored figure moving up the stairs toward the locked, isolated area where his cell was located. The video footage dates back to August 9, 2019.
The entry in an observation log of the video from the Metropolitan Correctional Center suggests that something was unreported by the authorities. “A flash of orange looks to be going up the L Tier stairs — could possibly be an inmate escorted up to that Tier."
The FBI described the fuzzy image as “possibly an inmate," while the Department of Justice Inspector General later identified it as an unidentified corrections officer, possibly carrying orange bedding or linen, CBS News reported.
The Inspector General’s final report noted that the individual appeared on the stairway at 10:39 pm and was noticed returning to the camera view at 10:41 pm.
“At approximately 10:39 pm, an unidentified corrections officer appeared to walk up the L Tier stairway, and then reappeared within view of the camera at 10:41 pm," the final report by the Inspector General stated.

Notably, the video observation might bring in a new perspective in the investigation as the official accounts never mentioned the orange figure, despite later statements from authorities insisting no one entered Epstein’s housing tier that night.
According to an in-depth analysis of surveillance video from the jail by CBS News, independent video analysts said the movement was more consistent with an inmate — or someone wearing an orange prison uniform — than a corrections officer.
Questions Over Epstein’s Death Still Not Answered
According to official reports, Epstein died by suicide some time before 6:30 am, when his body was discovered by a Corrections Officer, who was there to deliver his breakfast. No official time of death was ever determined.
There have been a lot of speculations about the work of investigators probing the circumstances of Jeffrey Epstein’s death.
