Discourse and debate lend democracy its beauty: V.D. Satheesan

The historic Legislative Assembly Hall inside the State Secretariat came alive on Friday when 128 students from 20 schools in Thiruvananthapuram donned the role of parliamentarians as part of a mock parliament organised by Young Indians (Yi) Trivandrum. Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan, who addressed the students, reminded them that discourses and debates lent democracy its beauty.

Speaking about the constitutional role of people’s representatives in Parliament, he peppered his speech with instances from his own life and urged the students to learn more about how legislative forums function. Earlier in the day, Kerala Assembly Speaker Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, former Speaker M. Vijayakumar and Assembly Secretary Shaji C. Baby attended the inaugural event. 

CII Kerala Vice-Chairman Rakesh Ramachandran, Yi Trivandrum Chair Mathew Jacob, Co-chair Vishnu A.R. and CII State Head D. Naganathan were present. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students who actively engaged in parliamentary proceedings, debates, and discussions, gaining first-hand exposure of democratic processes and public leadership. The event will conclude on Saturday.
