DMK betrayed mandate given by T.N. people in 2021, says PM Modi in Tiruchi rally

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (March 11, 2026) accused the DMK of betraying the mandate given by the people of Tamil Nadu in 2021, instead of treating it as a responsibility.

“In DMK rule, everything starts and ends with one family. Ministers and MLAs may change, but power remains with only one dynasty. DMK is infamous for its scientific corruption model; today that same model is being used to serve one family,” Mr. Modi said while addressing a public meeting of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tiruchi.

“A Minister from this very district is involved in a cash-for-jobs scam. When jobs are sold for money, the dreams of the youth are dashed,” Mr. Modi said in an oblique reference to the allegations of corruption in appointments raised by the Enforcement Directorate against Minister for Municipal Administration K.N. Nehru. “Just as all rivers go to the sea, all the money goes to one family,” he alleged.

Taking a critical view of the law and order situation, especially crimes against women, in the State, Mr. Modi said that the NDA, if voted to power, will maintain good law and order and ensure that people, especially women, live without fear.

“Under the DMK government, violent crimes against women have become common. Recently, everyone saw the horrible news about how a DMK member did not spare even a little girl. Today, criminals roam around carelessly harming women. I promise you that the NDA will ensure that the women of Tamil Nadu are able to live without fear. It will be criminals who will live in fear and not the people,” he said.

Mr. Modi also accused the DMK of failing to fulfil its 2021 election promises, including an increase in the minimum support price for paddy. “Farmers of the delta region deserved fair prices for their produce, good facilities, and modern storage warehouses. The DMK promised warehouses, but today, farmers are searching for them,” he said.

“Illegal sand mining is destroying the rivers and threatening the environment. Yet, those responsible for it continue to enjoy the protection,” he added.

Mr. Modi said the NDA has big plans for the progress of Tamil Nadu. “We have made the State a part of the rare earth corridor. We have proposed the Bengaluru-Chennai and Chennai-Hyderabad bullet train corridors. Such projects can take the State to the next level of growth in terms of connectivity and manufacturing. But these projects need a government that puts people’s interests above politics. Only the NDA can give such a government,” he said.

Stating that the forthcoming Assembly election will be the most important in the history of Tamil Nadu, as the people of the State must choose between corruption, dynastic politics and broken promises on the one hand, and development, opportunities and an honest government on the other, he said.

Asserting that he had full faith in the vision of the people of the State, Mr. Modi said Tamil Nadu wanted change and the people knew that only the NDA could bring about the change. “I can feel the pulse of the State clearly. Just as the Cauvery river flows with unstoppable force during the Tamil month of Aadi, the desire for change is gaining huge momentum,” he said.

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami dismissed Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s claim that the coming Assembly election was a fight between Tamil Nadu and Delhi. He has forgotten that the election was about who should or should not rule the State, Mr. Palaniswami said.

PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss, AMMK leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran and BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran also spoke.
