DMK MLA and former Fisheries Minister Anitha Radhakrishnan was granted bail by a court in Tiruchendur late on Friday (July 3, 2026) in connection with a case over certain remarks he had made against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.
Mr. Radhakrishnan was arrested after the Madras High Court on Friday dismissed his anticipatory bail in the case registered by the Authoor police in Thoothukudi district.
Justice G.K. Ilanthiraiyan had dismissed the advance bail plea after reading the transcript of the MLA’s speech in question, produced by the prosecution, and expressing displeasure over his remarks.
Following his arrest in Authoor on Friday, Mr. Radhakrishnan was brought to Thoothukudi district Superintendent of Police office for further inquiry.
After nearly five and half hours of questioning, at around 6.15 p.m., he was taken to the Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital (TKGMCH) for a medical check-up. He was subsequently produced before the court in Tiruchendur, at around 10.30 p.m.
During the hearing, the prosecution and defence presented detailed arguments. At around 11.55 p.m. judicial magistrate Chidambaram granted bail to Mr. Radhakrishnan.
The court directed him to furnish sureties within three days and ordered him to sign daily at the Authoor police station for 10 days.
