The Delhi government — led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) — has issued strict guidelines against animal slaughter on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha (Bakrid), which will be observed later in May.

Delhi minister Kapil Mishra warned of strict action against those who violate regulations on animal sacrifice and waste management.

In a message posted on ‘X’, Mishra said the sacrifice of cattle, cows, calves, camels, and other prohibited animals in Delhi is completely illegal. “Anyone doing or attempting to do so will be charged with a criminal offence, and legal action will be taken," he added.

The minister warned sacrificing animals in public places is also prohibited in the national capital, adding legal action would be taken against violators.

“In addition, illegally buying and selling animals in markets, setting up markets on the streets and lanes, and selling and buying animals are also completely illegal and not permitted".

On Waste Management

Kapil Mishra said spilling waste into drains, sewers, or the streets after sacrifice is not permitted.

“Sacrifice should only be performed at designated locations and only in authorised locations where permitted," he said, urging citizens to report violations to the police and the Development Department.

“If you come across anyone violating these guidelines, you can report them to the police and the Delhi Government’s Development Department".
