The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has reacted for the first time to the growing buzz around the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), with senior leader Sunil Ambekar saying that public discussions and differing opinions are a normal part of a democratic society and should not be viewed as a shock.

The remarks come as the satirical outfit continues to attract attention on social media and has become a talking point in political circles.

What RSS said?

Speaking on the issue, RSS Prachar Pramukh Sunil Ambekar said India’s democratic system is strong enough to accommodate a wide range of views and opinions.

“We are an aware society and we follow the democratic process. Within that democratic process, we have transparent elections, an open media, and now social media as well. Open forums take place every day. So, I believe that in a democracy, any kind of discussion and people expressing differing opinions should not be taken as a shock. They should be considered a part of the normal process," Ambekar said, according to ANI.

His comments come amid controversy surrounding the Cockroach Janta Party, which has emerged as a social media phenomenon, particularly among Gen Z users.

CJP and the political debate

The Cockroach Janta Party, a satirical social media outfit, has surpassed several political parties, including the BJP, in Instagram following. The outfit has also become the subject of political debate, with some BJP leaders questioning its intentions and alleging links with Pakistan.

Its X account has been blocked by the government, and the matter is currently pending before the Delhi High Court.

Responding to questions on the controversy, Ambekar said India’s democratic framework includes transparent elections, open media and social media platforms where discussions take place regularly.

‘Gen Z has faith in the country’

Ambekar also spoke about the younger generation, saying India’s youth remain optimistic about the country’s future. “Our people’s power, our democracy are strong. I believe our democracy has the capacity to include everyone’s voice and emotion, and people should trust that. RSS has full faith in it," he said.

He added that Gen Z has significant faith in the country and that the RSS also places confidence in the younger generation.

RSS does not need to intervene

On whether the RSS should respond directly to such developments, Ambekar said democratic institutions already have the ability to deal with such issues.

“In a democracy, various issues are raised, and there are democratic ways to handle them," he said.

He added that political parties, the media and other institutions are capable of handling debates and controversies without immediate intervention from the RSS.

“These are all conversations, and the people involved will themselves deal with those issues. I believe the media is free enough to handle them. Political parties are capable, and none of our institutions are weak. They are capable of handling matters, and our system is capable as well. Therefore, I do not think the organisation needs to rush into matters immediately," Ambekar said.

The Abhijit Dipke founded Cockroach Janta Party has also received support from several opposition leaders, including Mahua Moitra, Kirti Azad and Akhilesh Yadav. Several Bollywood personalities and comedians have also publicly backed the outfit.
