Anti-doping officials at the Winter Olympics announced on Thursday that they would investigate unusual allegations claiming that Olympic ski jumpers are injecting hyaluronic acid into their penises to gain a competitive advantage.

These claims, first reported by German media, are based on the theory that alterations to ski jumpers’ body suits, particularly around the groin, can create a sail effect that adds distance to a jump.

Last year, two Norwegians received three-month suspensions after their team was found to have altered the seams of their suits around the crotch area at the 2025 World Ski Championships.

Marius Lindvik, who aims to defend his Large Hill Olympic title at the Milan-Cortina Games, and another Olympic medallist, Johann Andre Forfang, were suspended despite arguing that the suits had been altered without their knowledge.

When Witold Banka, the Polish president of the World Anti-Doping Agency, was asked about the penis injection claims during a news conference in Milan, he responded with a smile, stating, “Ski jumping is very popular in Poland, so I promise you I’m going to look at it."

Olivier Niggli, WADA’s director general, commented, “I am not aware of the details of ski jumping and how this can improve performance, but if any related evidence surfaces, we would investigate it if it is indeed doping-related. We do not look into other performance-enhancing methods, but our list committee would certainly consider if this falls into that category."

Last month, the German newspaper Bild quoted Kamran Karim, a senior physician at Maria-Hilf Hospital in Krefeld, who said that it is possible to create a “temporary visual thickening of the penis through injections of paraffin or hyaluronic acid." He added, “However, lengthening is not possible this way. Such injections are not medically indicated and carry risks."
