A heart-wrenching crime was witnessed in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri when a father fed fed pesticide to his two-year-old son and then killed him by throwing him from the roof. Reason? The man “doubted his wife’s character" and did not believe the child was his own. The accused, reportedly, flung the toddler with such force that he fell on the road, broke his neck and died on the spot.

The incident took place on Thursday afternoon in Chitaua village, located in the Bichhwan police station area of Mainpuri. The police have arrested the accused.

According to a report in Amar Ujala, SP City Arun Kumar and CO Bhogaon have inspected the crime scene, and the body has been sent for post-mortem.

What ‘Provoked’ The Man To Throw 2-Year-Old?

According to Amar Ujala, accused Raj Bahadur was arguing with his wife Yamunavati around 2 pm on Thursday. The argument was so heated that it “frightened" the wife, who then went out of the house, and began washing clothes in the veranda.

Raj Bahadur locked the gate from inside and climbed onto the roof, where his two-year-old son Lalit was playing. He grabbed Lalit and started threatening to throw him off the terrace.

Amid the threats, Bahadur reportedly forced the child to drink the pesticide stored on the terrace, and then threw the two-year-old off the roof. Upon impact with the ground, his neck broke. The family and villagers rushed the child to the district hospital, where the doctors pronounced him dead.

After Throwing The Child, Accused Sat With Knife

After the declaration of two-year-old’s death, Raj Bahadur ran onto the roof once again. This time he reportedly grabbed a knife and threatened to harm himself if anyone approached. Upon receiving information about the incident, the police arrived at the scene.

The officers, however, did not make haste due to Bahadur’s ‘impulsive’ behaviour and threats.

Accused ‘Lured Down With Tobacco’

As unusual as the case could get, the accused had to be ‘lured’ down. According to Amar Ujala, the villagers persuaded him to come downstairs with a promise to “buy tobacco worth Rs 50 and give him to chew".

Meanwhile, the police pretended to leave the spot, assuring the accused that they wouldn’t arrest him. Convinced, Raj Bahadur unlocked the gate and came down. At that moment, the police, with the assistance of the villagers, apprehended him.

Accused Earlier Attacked Wife With Sickle

The report quoted Raj Bahadur’s sister, Laxmi, as saying that her brother married Yamunavati from UP’s Etah seven years ago. The couple has two sons, Ankush and Lalit.

Laxmi revealed that Raj Bahadur is addicted to alcohol and has a peculiar temperament. He frequently doubted Yamunavati’s fidelity, insisting that Lalit was not his child and accusing her of having an affair with a family member.

This was not the first instance of such behavior from Raj Bahadur; he had previously attacked Yamunavati with a sickle. There was also an incident where, when the police came to arrest him, he started throwing bricks from the roof.

How Thursday Fight Between Husband-Wife Began

The altercation on Thursday began when Raj Bahadur did not get money for alcohol. Three days earlier, he had called his wife back from her maternal home.

On Thursday, he was heading out to spray pesticides in the field and asked his wife for money to buy alcohol. When she declined, a fight ensued between the couple over this issue.

Yamunavati expressed her frustration over her husband’s accusations and mistreatment, which led her to spend more time at her mother’s house rather than her in-laws’.

She intends to seek justice for her son’s murder by filing a legal case against her husband. Meanwhile, the police have begun their investigation into the matter.
