 New England Patriots star quarterback’s shoulder received pain killing injection before Super Bowl LX

The New England Patriots’ final injury report showed Drake Maye had a shoulder injury, but he participated fully throughout the week and was cleared to play in Super Bowl LX against the Seattle Seahawks on Feb.

Visibly emotional, Maye said, “I shot it up, so not much feeling. It was good to go, and it felt all right.” However, ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported that Maye received a pain-killing injection for his injured right shoulder before Sunday night’s game.

The shoulder injury may have affected Maye. He turned the ball over three times, including a strip sack in the third quarter that Seattle quickly turned into a touchdown for a 19-0 lead. Maye also threw two interceptions in the fourth quarter, one of which was returned for a 45-yard touchdown. Seattle linebacker Uchenna Nwosu intercepted that pass.The second-year field general finished 27 of 43 passes for 295 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions in the Super Bowl loss to Seattle.

He also lost a fumble for three total giveaways. He was sacked six times. The Patriots’ offensive line allowed 11 total quarterback hits on Maye.

Drake Maye shoulder injury

The 23-year-old signal caller had sustained a brutal shoulder injury in the AFC Championship game against the Denver Broncos. The injury limited his right throwing shoulder. Two weeks ago, he was a limited participant, but he practiced fully in the week leading up to Super Bowl LX.

At the Super Bowl opening night, he told the press, “I feel good. I’ll be just fine. I threw a good bit. I threw as much as I would at a normal practice.

Stephen Douglas of ClutchPoints reported that Maye needing an injection before the game raises questions about how badly he was hurt. Both Maye and the team acted like it was no big deal during the two weeks of Super Bowl hype. Then, on the final day, Maye needed an injection. The next step is to consult a doctor and determine whether he will need surgery.
