PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss urged the Tamil Nadu government not to convert the existing Koyambedu bus terminus land into a commercial mall and instead develop a large urban green park.
In a statement, he said the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) had reportedly prepared three proposals for the 36-acre site at Koyambedu after bus operations were shifted to new termini at Kilambakkam and Kuthambakkam. The proposals reportedly include an urban green park, a mixed-use commercial complex, and a large shopping mall.
Dr. Anbumani opposed the commercial proposals, arguing that they would worsen environmental stress in the city. He called on the government to instead merge the existing bus terminus land and the surrounding omni bus stand area to create a 66-acre green park.
