Residents of Delhi and its adjoining areas, including Noida, woke up to a dust storm and hazy conditions as a sudden shift in weather swept across the region on Friday morning. The change in weather followed a notably warm Thursday, when the city recorded a maximum temperature of 36.8°C, well above the seasonal average, while the minimum stood at 18.9°C.

Visuals have surfaced on social media showing hazy skies and reduced visibility as strong surface winds carried dust across several parts of the region. The abrupt transformation marked a sharp departure from the clearer conditions seen a day earlier, with commuters facing difficulties due to low visibility and swirling dust.

Dusty Conditions To Continue

According to meteorological officials, the evolving weather is linked to a larger atmospheric system affecting northern India. Dusty conditions are expected to continue intermittently through the day, particularly during the afternoon and evening when wind speeds may pick up further.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by rain late Friday night, likely extending into Saturday. Lightning activity and short bursts of intense rain are also expected in isolated areas. Winds are predicted to blow at 20–30 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 40 km/h, potentially bringing some relief from the heat while also causing brief disruptions.

Daytime temperatures are likely to dip slightly, with maximums between 32°C and 34°C and minimums ranging from 20°C to 22°C. Further, cloudy skies may persist, along with the possibility of drizzle.

Meanwhile, the air quality has worsened amid the changing conditions. Data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) showed Delhi’s AQI rising to 218 on Friday morning, placing it in the “poor" category.
