Long-term commitment, goaltending-wise, with his future, the Calgary Flames have inked a seven-year, $52.5 million contract extension with Dustin Wolf. The 24-year-old guard just finished a brilliant rookie season in the NHL, something that underlined him as the franchise's cornerstone in between the pipes.
This deal gets a Calder Trophy finalist under contract with the Flames and sends a marriage signal that Wolf is considered by Calgary as a key contributor to the franchise in their longer-term plan.
Dustin Wolf earns a major payday after breakout rookie season
Dustin Wolf’s first full year with the Flames proved that the investment was worthwhile: He finished the 2024-25 campaign with a 29-16-8 record and posted a save percentage of .910 and a goals-against average of 2.64. His performance earned him a Calder Trophy nomination, and he ended up second to Montreal Canadiens' defenseman Lane Hutson.
The contract serves as an average annual value of $7.5 million until the matter of needing to be arbitrated next summer is about to be put on the calendar for Wolf. For Calgary, an early signing circumvents any potential complication and allows stability in goal. The contract further includes a 10-team no-trade list during his unrestricted free agency, reaffirming the Flames’ intent to have him stay in Calgary for the long stretch.
