External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday expressed gratitude to the government of Armenia and its Foreign Affairs Minister Ararat Mirzoyan for facilitating the evacuation of Indian fishermen from Iran via Armenian territory.

The External Affairs Minister didn’t specify the number of fishermen evacuated from the conflict-stricken region today.

In a post on X, Jaishankar expressed appreciation for the support extended during the operation, which ensured the safe return of the stranded nationals to India.

“Thank FM @AraratMirzoyan and the Government of Armenia for facilitating the evacuation of Indian fishermen today from Iran, through Armenia to India (sic)," Jaishankar tweeted.

The evacuation is part of a broader effort by New Delhi to bring back its citizens amid escalating tensions in West Asia, with over 550 Indians already evacuated via Armenia in recent weeks through coordinated diplomatic and logistical operations.
