Elaborate arrangements in place for Sivaratri celebrations

The Ernakulam Rural police have stepped up security measures in view of the heavy rush expected at the Sivaratri celebrations at the Aluva Mahadeva Temple on the banks of the Periyar. Though Sivaratri is on Sunday (February 15, 2026), rush for ‘Bali Tharpanam’ on the river ghat is expected for three days.

Police and Fire and Rescue Services will conduct intense patrol. A special squad has been formed to monitor repeat offenders. A special police team will be deployed to control rush at the Aluva railway station, the police said in a statement.

The Manappuram and nearby areas will be under drone surveillance. CCTVs have been installed at major junctions and busy areas. Besides, police officials will be deployed in watch towers.

Ambulance services have been arranged to meet emergency situations.

The police have imposed traffic regulations in Aluva town and nearby areas from 4 p.m. on Sunday to 2 p.m. on Monday (February 16, 2026) in view of the celebrations.

All vehicles, including KSRTC buses, going to the river ghat have to divert from Seminarypady and proceed to the main venue through GCDA Road in front of Ayurveda hospital.

Vehicles leaving the river ghat must reach Paravur Kavala Junction via Old Desom Road. No traffic will be allowed from Thottakkattukara to Manappuram. No vehicle movement will be permitted between Bank Junction and Mahatma Gandhi Town Hall from 8 p.m. on Sunday to 2 p.m. on Monday.

The police have arranged parking facilities for devotees attending the festival. People have been urged to use the facilities and warned that strict action will be taken against illegal parking.
