In a distressing incident that has sparked outrage across Rajasthan, the body of an elderly man who drowned in waterlogged streets was left to be carried by locals after government agencies allegedly failed to respond. The visuals, now circulating widely on social media, have put the Dausa district administration in the dock, raising serious questions about its preparedness and compassion.

The incident took place on Tuesday evening in the Sedulai Colony of Lalsot town, where the elderly man drowned following heavy water accumulation in the area. Eyewitnesses alleged that no official except an ambulance reached the scene.

Even that ambulance reportedly stopped 150 metres away, forcing residents to step in. Also, it reportedly did not carry a strecher. With no civil defence, SDRF, or administrative staff in sight, the locals allegedly lifted the body themselves. The deceased was carried by a resident with a part of the body on his shoulder and the rest dragging on the ground.

The video of the incident, captured by bystanders, has now gone viral over the internet. Residents described it as not just a man’s death, but “a funeral of the system’s helplessness". Hitting at the local administration, a local said, “The chief minister may be sensitive but the administration clearly is not."

Taking note of the incident, Block Chief Medical Officer Dr Pawan Kumar Jain called for disciplinary action against the EMT, JEN Meena, and the ambulance driver, Shivcharan Meena. A letter has been sent to the agency operating the 108 emergency ambulance service, describing the duo’s conduct as “gross negligence" and “inhuman".

Meanwhile, the waterlogging crisis in Lalsot remains unresolved. Locals say the area has been battling drainage issues for years, yet no meaningful administrative intervention has followed. This latest tragedy has brought that chronic neglect into sharp focus.
