Elderly man, woman die in separate road accidents in Trichy

Trichy: Two people, including a 72-year-old man, died in separate road accidents in Trichy, police said on Saturday.E Chokkalingam, 72, of Mela Chinthamani succumbed to injuries on Friday night after a private bus hit his moped near the Kalaignar Arivalayam signal close to Chathiram Bus Stand around 4.30 pm.Police said the bus, travelling behind the victim’s vehicle, collided with the moped, leaving Chokkalingam with severe injuries. He was rushed to a private hospital, where he died around 10.15 pm.In a separate incident, A Valliammal, 65, of Karumandapam died on Friday evening while undergoing treatment at Trichy Government Hospital for injuries sustained in an accident on June 29. Police said Valliammal was crossing the Trichy-Dindigul Road near Karumandapam around 7.55 pm when she was hit by a motorcycle ridden by V Rajesh, 25, of Kulithalai.Based on complaints from the victims’ families, the traffic police registered separate cases at the North and South traffic police stations.The private bus driver, Mohamed Hassan, and motorcyclist Rajesh have been booked under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rash and negligent driving causing death. Further investigation is underway.
