As the vote counting for the 2026 Assembly elections continues, the contest between key political figures has become increasingly tight. Mamata Banerjee, MK Stalin, Pinarayi Vijayan, and Himanta Biswa Sarma are all fighting fiercely for their constituencies, with each leader’s performance playing a crucial role in the political landscape of their respective states.

With the counting still underway, the results in these key constituencies will provide critical insights into the political futures of these four Chief Ministers.

Mamata Maintains Lead

In the high-profile Bhabanipur constituency, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is leading against BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari. As per the latest data, Banerjee’s lead margin stands at 7,184 votes after 12 of the 20 rounds of counting.

Banerjee, who was initially trailing behind Adhikari in the early rounds, has managed to close the gap significantly, securing 44,729 votes compared to Adhikari’s 37,545 votes.

The contest saw sharp fluctuations, but Banerjee regained her advantage after overcoming a brief setback in the second round, where Adhikari surged ahead. With eight rounds of counting remaining, Mamata’s lead seems to be holding firm, and the result remains on a knife-edge.

Stalin Trails in Kolathur

In Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister MK Stalin is currently trailing in his home constituency of Kolathur. Stalin, who is contesting against VS Babu of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has secured 63,959 votes, while Babu leads with 72,498 votes.

Stalin is not alone in his struggle, as several other DMK ministers are trailing in their respective constituencies. Notably, deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin is also trailing by over 1,200 votes in Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni.

Vijayan Surges Ahead in Dharmadom

Kerala’s Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who was initially trailing in the Dharmadom constituency, has now moved into the lead. With 84,504 votes, Vijayan has edged ahead of his Congress rival, V P Abdul Rasheed, who has secured 66,067 votes.

Vijayan, who is seeking his third consecutive term from Dharmadom, has seen his lead grow with each passing round, reflecting his stronghold in the region. Dharmadom is considered an LDF bastion, and this close contest is being seen as an unusual development for the CPI(M) in Kannur, especially given Vijayan’s overwhelming victory margin of over 45,000 votes in 2021.

Himanta Dominates in Jalukbari

In Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has established a commanding lead in the Jalukbari constituency, securing 89,562 votes, well ahead of his Congress rival Bidisha Neog, who has received 26,533 votes.

Sarma’s lead stands at a massive 103,793 votes after 13 rounds of counting. Sarma, who has represented Jalukbari for several terms, is looking to extend his dominance in the constituency for the sixth consecutive term. His victory margin has steadily increased with each election, and he is expected to retain the seat once the counting concludes.
