Elevator mishap at private hospital sparks safety concerns

The elevator mishap at a private hospital in Karimnagar on Wednesday night sparked concerns over the maintenance of the elevators and safety of patients as well as visitors.

It may be mentioned that Social Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar had a narrow escape when the elevator at a private hospital in the town suddenly plunged from the first floor due to a ‘technical malfunction’. No one was injured in the incident.

The incident occurred when the minister visited the hospital to enquire about the health of a patient from Dharmapuri constituency, undergoing treatment at the hospital. 

Meanwhile, the District Congress Committee (DCC) president and Choppadandi MLA Medipalli Sathyam on Thursday urged the district authorities to order a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations of irregularities and poor maintenance of essential facilities including elevators in several private hospitals in the town.
