The Panjagutta police have arrested an employee in connection with a theft reported at a jewellery showroom in the area and recovered one kilogram of stolen gold within 24 hours of the complaint.
The accused was identified as Karampudi Gopalakrishna, 25, a resident of Tadepalli in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. The case was registered on February 15 based on a complaint lodged by one Sebastian regarding the theft of gold biscuits from the Joyalukkas showroom located in Panjagutta.
According to the police, special teams were formed immediately after the complaint was received. Investigators analysed CCTV footage, technical evidence and intelligence inputs, following which the accused was identified and apprehended within a day.
Police said the entire stolen property was recovered from the possession of the accused. The seizure included 10 gold biscuits weighing 100 grams each, totalling one kilogram and valued at about ₹1.65 crore, a mobile phone and a motorcycle.
Police have advised jewellery shop owners to strengthen security measures, including installation of adequate CCTV coverage, use of motion sensor cameras, proper vetting of security personnel, thorough checks of visitors and employees, and maintenance of physical security arrangements such as locks and shutters.
