ENG vs WI, 1st ODI, Predicted Playing 11, Toss Updates: England will begin their new white-ball era with a fresh face in the captaincy role in Harry Brook as they take on the West Indies in the first of three-match ODI series on Thursday at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
Brook was named England’s white-ball captain after Jos Buttler stepped down from the leadership role following a disappointing T20 World Cup 2024 and the Champions Trophy, which took place in Pakistan and the UAE earlier this year.
England will be looking to turn their fortunes around after a challenging stint in ODIs, with the Three Lions currently on a seven-match losing streak, which includes a Champions Trophy and followed by a 3-0 whitewash earlier this year during their tour of India.
West Indies are coming into the contest with a 1-1 draw in a rain-hit ODI series against Ireland. The Shai Hope-led WI will eye to get crucial points in their bid to qualify for the 2027 World Cup.
England have already named their playing XI, where Jamie Smith is slotted in as an opener alongside Ben Duckett. In Saqib Mahmood, Jamie Overton and Brydon Carse, England have three seamers options.
