Lucknow Fire: Fifteen people were killed and several others were injured in the blaze.

A young couple who were set to marry next year were among the 15 people killed in the devastating fire that took place in a three-storey building in Lucknow’s Aliganj area on Monday. The victims, 27-year-old Nilesh Kumar and 30-year-old Anamika Samant, worked together at the same office and had recently got engaged after their families formally approved their relationship.

According to family members, Anamika’s parents had travelled from West Bengal to Lucknow a few days earlier to discuss the marriage. During the visit, both families held a roka ceremony and agreed to conduct the wedding next year.

Nilesh’s brother, Abhishek Kumar, said the families had already booked train tickets to West Bengal for next week to finalise further wedding arrangements, including invitation cards and other ceremonies.

Family members said Nilesh had recently received a promotion and was saving money for the wedding. He had also planned to move into a new house under construction in the city and bring Anamika there after their marriage.

However, those plans were cut short when both lost their lives in Monday’s fire, one of the deadliest incidents reported in the area in recent years.
