Engineering student dies after fall from hostel building in Yelahanka, family alleges foul play

A 21-year-old student died after allegedly falling from a hostel building in north Bengaluru in the early hours of Tuesday, raising suspicions of foul play.

The deceased has been identified as Laksh Mishra, a second-year B. Tech. student and a native of Ranchi in Jharkhand. He was pursuing his studies at a private college in Yelahanka.

According to police, the incident occurred around 3 a.m., when the student reportedly fell from the ninth floor of a hostel building located within the limits of Yelahanka New Town Police Station. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead.

The victim’s father, Anjani Kumar Mishra, alleged foul play and demanded a thorough investigation. He stated that he received a call from the college informing him about the fall, and later, around 4 a.m., he was told that his son had succumbed to injuries at the hospital. After reaching Bengaluru and seeing the body, he expressed doubts over the circumstances of the death.

“It does not appear that he fell from such a height,” he said. He added that the spot where his son fell had very little blood, which raised suspicion. “If someone falls from the ninth floor, the condition of the body and the amount of blood loss would be significant. There was no reason for my son to take such an extreme step,” he said.

“I suspect foul play. The college management is hiding something. I want a proper probe and justice for my son,” he added.

The police have registered a case and are examining all angles of the case, including an accidental fall and other possibilities. Further investigation is in progress.
