Ensure timely completion of Mandiri, Bakarganj drain projects: Nitin

Patna: BJP national president and Bankipur MLA Nitin Nabin conducted an inspection of Mandiri and Bakarganj drain projects within the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) area on Tuesday.

He reviewed the ongoing development work of the drains, which is in their final stages, assessed the drainage systems’ condition, and issued necessary directives to officials for their timely completion.Accompanying him were deputy CM and urban development and housing minister Vijay Sinha, Buidco managing director Animesh Parashar, PMC commissioner Yashpal Meena, and other senior officials.During the inspection, Nabin examined the cleaning arrangements, silt removal, structural integrity, and flow capacity of both the drains.

He instructed the officers and technical staff to expedite proper cleaning, desilting, and other essential tasks. Emphasising quality and transparency, he stressed that high standards should be maintained in drain-cleaning operations and the progress should be regularly reviewed.Interacting with local residents, Nabin said that ensuring smooth drainage and seamless road connectivity in urban areas is a primary responsibility of the administration.

He stressed the need for better coordination among all relevant departments. With the upcoming monsoon season in mind, he instructed that all sewage management-related works be prioritised for completion to provide effective drainage and prevent waterlogging.

He assured that follow-up inspections would be conducted as needed to maintain continuous monitoring of the projects’ pace.Nabin said the completion of these two roads over drains would benefit a large population and also strengthen Patna’s traffic management by reducing congestion.The Mandiri Nala redevelopment is being executed by Patna Smart City Limited. The project involves rehabilitating the drain and constructing a 1,289-metre-long covered box drain with a two-lane road on top, at a cost of Rs86.98 crore. Once finished, the two-lane road will allow traffic between Nehru Path (Bailey Road) near the Income Tax roundabout and Ashok Rajpath via Danapur-Gandhi Maidan road near Siddeshwari Kali Mandir.To facilitate regular maintenance, the design includes two access ramps and three desilting chambers. Four sluice gates are planned for better flow regulation and control, and the completed road will feature street lighting along with landscaping to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the area.Separately, the Bakarganj Nala redevelopment is progressing at a cost of Rs26.98 crore. Upon completion, this drain will provide improved drainage to Lalji Tola, Railway Colony, Peer Muhani Machhli Gali, parts of Salimpur Ahra, Rajendra Path, Daldali Road, Bhanwar Pokhar, Ashok Rajpath, Bari Path, Ram Ghulam Chowk near Gandhi Maidan, Gandhi Maidan gate nos. 1, 2 and 3, as well as the Gandhi Maidan bus stand.
