Chennai: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Sunday demanded a detailed probe into alleged irregularities in the assistant professor recruitment examination.Palaniswami issued a statement urging the TVK govt to suspend the recruitment process until the inquiry is completed.“Candidates who scored over 100 marks in the objective paper were awarded zero in the descriptive paper and vice versa. Such glaring discrepancies raise serious doubts over the transparency of the evaluation process. The recruitment results should be cancelled, a fair and independent inquiry should be ordered and action should be taken against those responsible,” Palaniswami said. The demand comes days after the Teacher Recruitment Board (TRB) announced the results of the examination held to fill 2,708 assistant professor vacancies in govt arts and science colleges in Dec last year.
More than 42,000 candidates appeared for the recruitment test, which consisted of a 150-mark objective paper and a 50-mark descriptive paper.“42 candidates were awarded zero marks and 106 candidates received just one mark in the descriptive section despite securing high scores in the objective paper. A candidate scored 111 out of 150 in the objective paper but was given zero in the descriptive paper,” Palaniswami said.At the same time, several candidates with relatively low objective scores were awarded as high as 49 out of 50 in the descriptive paper, significantly altering the final merit list, he said.
