A nursery worker in the UK has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for sexually abusing toddlers as young as two in a case prosecutors described as “every parent’s nightmare.”Nathan Bennett, 30, was convicted of multiple sexual offences against five boys aged between two and three at the Partou King Street Nursery in Bristol. His crimes included two counts of rape of a child under 13, four counts of sexual assault of a child under 13 and two counts of sexual assault by penetration. He had earlier pleaded guilty to 13 additional sexual offences involving four of the victims.Sentencing Bennett at Bristol Crown Court, Judge William Hart described him as an “incorrigible and dangerous paedophile.”“You were lurking ready to abuse them and to pollute their innocence with your own vile desires,” the judge said.
Bennett will serve at least 24 years in custody, with a further six years on licence after release.
Abuse uncovered through CCTV
Bennett began working at the nursery in July 2024. Concerns about his behaviour surfaced in February 2025 after parents and staff reported troubling conduct. His manager reviewed CCTV footage and allegedly saw him putting his hands down a child’s trousers. Bennett was immediately suspended and arrested by Avon and Somerset Police soon after.
Investigators spent hundreds of hours reviewing footage from the nursery’s 18 cameras to identify victims and determine the timeline of the abuse. However, police said the recordings only went back about a month before being overwritten.
Parents describe shock and trauma
Families said the revelations were devastating. One parent whose child had been under Bennett’s care told reporters the news was “horrifying”.“You think this can only happen in TV shows and films and to other people,” the parent said, as quoted by Sky News.
“I never thought my child would be looked after by someone capable of such horrific things.”Another mother told the court her son demonstrated the abuse at home and said it had happened at nursery.
Families seek accountability
After the sentencing, families said concerns about Bennett’s behaviour had been raised before his arrest but were not properly escalated.“Nothing can undo what has happened,” they said in a statement. “Our focus now is on supporting our children and ensuring meaningful changes are made to protect others.”Police have also opened a portal for parents whose children attended the nursery to report any concerns to specially trained child protection officers.
