Season 9 dives headfirst into the Age of Apocalypse arc, which is a more villain-centric storyline that draws straight from Marvel's alternate-timeline comic tales.
The arc was seeded throughout Season 8.5's Gallery Cards, which described two specific incoming characters without naming them outright.
Marvel Rivals Season 9 new heroes
Jubilee and The Hood are expected to be the two new heroes arriving as part of Marvel Rivals Season 9. Although neither character has been officially confirmed by NetEase, they are set to arrive. Here are further details about them:
- Jubilee is widely expected to arrive as a Strategist. That might seem counterintuitive given her comic powers are built around explosive pyrotechnic energy, which reads as Duelist. Nevertheless, given that Marvel Rivals has a surplus of Duelists, it is likely that Jubilee will not be one.
- The Hood is expected to join as a Vanguard. His magical cape grants him significant survivability, and leaked ability descriptions suggest his kit focuses on creating clones. It is a mechanic that could make him one of the more unpredictable additions to the roster. Story leaks suggest The Hood may position himself as one of Apocalypse's biggest opponents.
Marvel Rivals Season 9.0 will introduce the game's 52nd playable character on day one, with the second hero expected in the Season 9.5 mid-season update roughly four weeks later.
Marvel Rivals Season 9 new map
Dataminers have uncovered references to an ancient Egyptian location known internally as Thebes. Given that Season 9's story revolves around Egyptian mythology and the Age of Apocalypse, many players believe this map could finally become playable. Whether it arrives as a Convoy, Domination, or Convergence mode map is still unknown, and NetEase hasn't officially announced it.
