LA Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua just stacked another off-field headline on top of an already noisy year. Days after Super Bowl LX, video surfaced of Nacua stumbling and dancing in a San Francisco street before getting into a black SUV, with fans convinced he was drunk after the game between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots. Now a former Pro Bowl guard has stepped in. Richie Incognito went on Jason Whitlock’s “Fearless” podcast and used the moment to question how Nacua is handling sudden fame, warning that the cameras he plays to now are the same ones that can cost him money later.
Ex-NFL guard says Puka Nacua ‘needs to grow up’ and warns the drunk clip will follow him into contract talks
Incognito tried to give some benefit of the doubt before he turned up the heat on Nacua’s choices off the field.“Puka, it’s an interesting situation,” Incognito said. “I believe, at his core, he’s a good dude.
He’s just a young guy, and you have to understand that these athletes are motivated differently now. ... Now these kids are thrown in the spotlight, like, ‘I wanna do streaming with this guy.’ Everybody is TMZ nowadays.”
Then he got blunt about what that Super Bowl street video means for the Rams star’s brand.“So, I think (Rams coach) Sean McVay is the perfect guy for Nacua. ... Puka needs to grow up. You have to come to the understanding that this is hurting the brand.
This is gonna come up in the next contract negotaition.”That is not a small warning for a fifth-round pick who has already outplayed his rookie deal. Nacua posted 1,715 yards and 10 touchdowns on a league-leading 129 catches in 2025, then added 332 yards and two scores in the playoffs as Los Angeles reached the NFC Championship Game before losing to Seattle.
Sydney Sweeney tweet, skydiving pitch and Sam Darnold jab keep Puka Nacua in the crosshairs
The Super Bowl street clip did not happen in a vacuum. Earlier this week, Nacua had to relive his viral tweet at actor Sydney Sweeney on the “Up & Adams” show, months after he tried to shoot his shot when she described her ideal partner. When Kay Adams asked if he regretted replying “Love skydiving” to Sweeney’s comments, Nacua doubled down.“No, not at all.“My awareness skills were at zero. I don’t regret it at all.“I would still love to go skydiving. I’m not going to pass that opportunity up.”He then turned to the camera and delivered a message straight to the Rams’ front office and, indirectly, Sweeney.“Mr Snead, Mr Demoff and Mr Pastoors- I love you guys all so much.
Maui is waiting for us.“They have a plane and we’re going to fly over an island.“Me, you and I have a plus one. We will all be able to jump out of the plane.”Adams yelled “Sydney Sweeney,” and Nacua could only smile. On the football side, Nacua also stirred up Seahawks fans during Super Bowl LX by posting Sam Darnold’s name with a laughing emoji on X as the quarterback struggled. Linebacker Ernest Jones IV fired back with a simple reminder about who was actually playing that night, quote-posting Nacua and writing, “Ain’t you at home.
Goofy (expletive).”For now, Nacua is still one of the NFL’s most productive young receivers. The question, as Incognito put it, is whether the league will remember the routes and records first, or the drunk clip, the Sydney Sweeney tweet and the online jabs when it is time to pay him.
