Ange Postecoglou set to become Nottingham Forest head coach after Nuno Espirito Santo's exit, bringing his Spurs staff as soon as the Arsenal clash.

Former Tottenham Hotspur coach Ange Postecoglou is reportedly set to be appointed as Nottingham Forest’s head coach after Nuno Espirito Santo’s controversial departure in the middle of the season. According to The Athletic,  Postecoglou is set to take over as early as the weekend’s early-kickoff game against Arsenal, with most of his former Spurs support staff to join him in the dugout.

The Australian Postecoglou led Spurs to their first major honor in almost two decades at the Europa League, but the Lilly Whites had finished 17th in the league and sacked him soon after, going for a more pragmatic option in Thomas Frank. His arrival at Forest is in a remarkable contrast to that, with Nuno considered one of the most defense-focused and almost British philosophy coaches in the league.

Postecoglou grew up the ranks in Australia, leading several clubs till and the international team till 2017. He then went to Celtic and won five trophies, including two Scottish League titles, in two seasons. His time at Spurs was of an entertainment-focused, ruthless attacking philosophy, which demanded high fitness and technicality from his players. Spurs were great to watch, but also suffered a record 22 losses in 2024-25.

Nuno, too, led Forest to their first Europa League entry in 30 years in 2024-25. However, as the team progressed on the field, the behind-the-scenes were not so great. His relationship with the new sporting director, Edu (who came from Arsenal), is described to be hostile right from the start of the season, which has also spilled over to the chemistry between Nuno and the club’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis.

Nuno was surprisingly open about the breakdown of the relationship of late, which is seemed to have played a role in his sacking.

“Nottingham Forest Football Club confirms that, following recent circumstances, Nuno Espírito Santo has today been relieved of his duties as Head Coach. The Club thanks Nuno for his contribution during a very successful era at The City Ground, in particular his role in the 2024/25 season, which will forever be remembered fondly in the history of the Club. As someone who played a pivotal role in our success last season, he will always hold a special place in our journey," Forest said in a statement.
