In a dramatic police action in West Bengal’s Malda district, Bakul Sheikh, a former Trinamool Congress (TMC) Anchal President and an alleged notorious criminal, was paraded through parts of Kaliachak after being arrested in connection with multiple criminal cases.

According to police and local accounts, Bakul Sheikh has been accused in several cases, including murder, loot, extortion and kidnapping.

Residents alleged that his influence in the area had created an atmosphere of fear for years, preventing many people from speaking out against him despite repeated allegations.

Following his arrest, police conducted a public march through the locality with Sheikh being escorted under heavy security.

During the procession, he was seen with his hands folded while a rope was tied around his waist.

Security personnel and police officers accompanied him as they moved through public areas amid a visible crowd presence.

Locals claimed that Bakul Sheikh’s name had long been associated with intimidation and criminal activity. Some residents alleged that families had previously left the area out of fear.

Several people gathered during the police operation and watched as authorities moved through the locality.

The action comes amid intensified operations by the administration against alleged criminal networks and absconding offenders in different parts of the state.

Residents in the area said the arrest and public display brought a sense of relief and signalled the end of a prolonged period of fear.

The attached video shows a large police and security deployment escorting the accused along a road in Kaliachak.

Bakul Sheikh appears to be walking in the middle of the security formation with folded hands while officers maintain control of the surrounding area and bystanders gather to observe the operation.

Malda District Superintendent of Police Anupam Singh was unavailable for comment.
