Apoora Lakhia and Salman Khan
Speculation around the release plans of Salman Khan–starrer Battle Of Galwan continues to gather momentum, with strong trade buzz indicating a significant date shift. According to a news report the much-anticipated film is unlikely to meet its earlier April 17 release schedule and is now being lined up for an Independence Day window.
Sources cited by the reports claim that the makers are considering August 14, 2026, a day ahead of August 15, believing the patriotic fervour around Independence Day would make it an ideal period for the film’s release. The delay is said to stem from multiple factors, including pending shoot portions and reshoots that are taking longer than expected. A source revealed that additional schedules are underway in Mumbai, followed by a few remaining days of filming, after which post-production and editing will begin.
Moreover, as per protocol, the film also needs to be screened for the Ministry of Defence, a process that could further extend timelines.
Salman Khan, the source added, is keen that the film is not rushed and wants it to be shaped carefully given its sensitive and patriotic subject. While an official confirmation is awaited, when Bombay Times contacted director Apoorva Lakhia wasn't sure of any such development. He responded, saying, “I am not aware.”
If the August release materialises, Battle Of Galwan is expected to clash with Aamir Khan and Sunny Deol starrer Lahore 1947 and Kartik Aaryan starrer Naagzilla at the box office. The patriotic war drama is inspired by the 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese troops in eastern Ladakh. The film recreates the tense, high-altitude confrontation that unfolded without firearms and highlights the bravery and sacrifice of Indian soldiers. Salman Khan plays the role of Colonel Bikkumalla Santosh Babu, the commanding officer who led his unit during the face-off and was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra.
While Chitrangda Singh plays the female lead, the supporting cast includes Zeyn Shaw, Ankur Bhatia and Vipin Bhardwaj.
